In the final installment of our conversation, Miranda Bradley embodies relentless resilience, her "no options" philosophy forged by childhood lessons and the profound humiliation of a returned wedding dress deposit. She self-financed a five-year college journey, working as a journalist and competing in pageants to become her family's first four-year degree holder, later disowning her father for missing her graduation. A panicked abortion, a trauma suppressed for years with a "blinders-on" approach, was an unexpected pregnancy outcome she later wished she'd processed and shared with husband Dan sooner. In Austin, she found stability with husband Dan Bradley, becoming respected community leaders. Founding her marketing firm, Be Creative, for family balance, she views life's hardships as "pavers" guiding her purpose. Now pursuing a Master's degree, she will be her family's first with two degrees, partly dedicated to her grandmother. She encourages listeners to take "one step in front of the other" to find the "beauty on the other side".

In part 2 of a 3-part conversation, Ty Gipson interviews Miranda Bradley, who continues her journey of overcoming childhood trauma and finding strength. Miranda recounts the profound impact of childhood molestation, the terror of not being believed, and being punished for "lying," which left her feeling like "damaged goods". Despite outward success as a teenage opera singer and student leader, she secretly battled internal turmoil and early alcohol use, often instigated by her father. Her father's neglect and abusive attempts to deter her from college solidified a defensive "thuggish mentality".

Miranda details self-funding her college education at Louisiana Tech, where persistent invitations to the Wesley Foundation sparked a profound spiritual awakening and the discovery of a supportive community. This part of her story culminates with the heartbreak of a broken engagement, a difficult but faith-led decision that propelled her to an unplanned move to Texas to start anew. Ty highlights Miranda's remarkable resilience, a trait she traces back to a childhood game where her brother would repeatedly push her down, teaching her to always get back up.

Welcome to No Options, hosted by Ty Gipson, where life's toughest trials become the foundation for your greatest triumphs. In this powerful episode, Ty is joined by his wife of 21 years, Crystal Gipson, to share the untold, unique parts of their story, highlighting how the "no options" approach has defined their journey together.

Episode Highlights:

  • Building a Business with No Options to Fail: Ty and Crystal dive into the early days of their marriage and business venture. They made the bold decision to both quit their corporate jobs and commit 200% to their new business, embracing a "no options to fail" mindset. Crystal, initially worried, played a crucial "behind the scenes" role, providing the "brains" and making things happen, contrasting with Ty's front-facing strengths. They discuss learning to navigate working together, prioritizing, and maintaining a work-life balance by stopping business talk when they crossed their neighborhood's brick entrance.
  • Navigating Hidden Health Crises: Throughout their business journey, Ty faced various health challenges, including quick hospital stays. They deliberately kept the details of Ty's health struggles private from clients and the public to prevent it from affecting their business, presenting a brave face even when things were scary.
  • The Onset of Kidney Failure and Dialysis: In 2018, Ty's kidney function began to decline, leading to a major hospital stay in May 2019 where doctors confirmed his kidneys were no longer functioning adequately for daily life. This marked a somber moment, as Ty had dodged dialysis multiple times before, but now it was unavoidable. This health crisis solidified their "no options" mindset, leading them to tackle dialysis as the next necessary step rather than giving up. Ty underwent dialysis three days a week, from early morning until late morning, continuing to run the business with staff support.
  • The Unexpected Transplant Journey: The couple immediately got Ty on the transplant list, initially believing that Ty's sister or brother, who had been matches for a previous transplant, would be viable donors again. They soon discovered that it's highly unlikely for a second family member to donate due to the recipient's body building antibodies against that particular DNA. In a surprising turn, Crystal decided to get tested, thinking she was a different blood type (A positive) and aiming for a paired donation. After extensive testing and psychological evaluations (done separately from Ty to prevent coercion), she was informed she was a perfect match, an O blood type. Crystal attributes this to divine intervention, stating, "God changed my blood type," a moment of profound faith for them.
  • The New Year's Eve Transplant and Recovery: Crystal and Ty underwent the kidney transplant on New Year's Eve 2019, with everything going perfectly. As the donor, Crystal was treated "like a queen" in the hospital's presidential suite, while Ty was in a separate, quarantined area for transplant recipients. Crystal describes the surprising post-surgery experience of feeling similar to how Ty had felt before the transplant, with significantly reduced energy, as her kidney function adjusted.
  • Post-Transplant Care and COVID-19 Impact: After about a month in the hospital, they moved to Nora's Home, a specialized, germ-free environment for transplant patients near the hospital, for further recovery and daily testing. Ty's mother played a vital role, acting as a caretaker for both Crystal and Ty, cooking meals and handling groceries, as Crystal was also recovering from major surgery. This period coincided with the onset of COVID-19, which provided unexpected extra recovery time but also presented challenges with Ty's compromised immune system and their daughter being at home.
  • Resilience and Life Lessons: Crystal juggled business responsibilities (with staff stepping up to run things), caretaking for Ty, being a mother, and a wife during this intense period. She emphasizes the importance of pushing forward during a crisis, putting worries "in a box" to be dealt with later, especially in a life-or-death scenario like dialysis. They aimed to set an example for their daughters about perseverance. The Gipsons believe that challenges, though hard, are critical for growth, teaching lessons, and providing stories to help others.
  • Gratitude and the Enduring "No Options" Legacy: Ty expresses immense gratitude to Crystal, calling her the "silent weapon" behind his "no options" approach and acknowledging that he can never truly repay her for giving him life. They continue to apply their positive, "tackle the problem" mindset, which has enabled them to achieve an exit strategy for their business and move into a new phase of life.

Welcome to "No Options with Ty Gipson":

  • The show's purpose is to share real stories, raw conversations, and the unwavering belief that listeners are "built to overcome".
  • Host Ty Gipson shares his personal journey to help others navigate their challenges, drawing on a lifetime of overcoming adversity and persevering.

Ty's Early Life and First Challenges:

  • Diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at age 8 in southeast Texas.
  • At age 10, he was one of the first to wear what is now known as the insulin pump, which helped regulate his brittle diabetes after years of in and out of hospitals.
  • Despite his condition, he lived a full childhood and young adulthood, enjoying activities like skiing, fishing, hunting, swimming, and playing sports, striving to live as though he "did not have diabetes".
  • His parents treated him like any other child, and he enjoyed college life and an internship at Walt Disney World.

First Major Health Crisis and Dual Transplant (2000):

  • At age 30, Ty 's kidneys were failing.
  • He was a candidate for a dual kidney-pancreas transplant in Baltimore, Maryland.
  • His mother, at age 60, was his living donor for the kidney, while the pancreas came from an organ donor.
  • During this period, Ty was determined not to "skip a beat," continuing to work despite feeling rough and relying on naps to get through the day.
  • The call for the transplant came on Super Bowl Sunday, January 2000.
  • The surgery lasted 16 hours, involving Ty, his mother, and the pancreas in separate surgical rooms.
  • Immediately after surgery, Ty felt better, though he realized later how bad he had truly felt.
  • Post-surgery, he left the hospital a month and a half later, taking 60 pills a day due to the nature of the research surgery and new medications.
  • The new pancreas allowed his body to regulate its own insulin, making him feel like the diabetes was cured, even though it's not a complete cure.

New Life and Entrepreneurship:

  • After the transplant, Ty felt healthy and was able to go back to work.
  • He met Crystal, who would soon become his wife.
  • Together, they decided to tackle entrepreneurship, leaving corporate jobs to go "100%" into their own business.
  • They adopted a "no options to fail" mindset, pushing through challenges despite 80% of small businesses failing.
  • They successfully launched a business and, a couple of years later, opened a similar business on a national level that has been successful for years.

Subsequent Health Challenges and Second Kidney Transplant (2019):

  • While on top of the world, Ty started feeling bad again, discovering his pancreas had failed. He went back on the insulin pump to regulate his insulin.
  • Eight years later, his kidneys started failing again.
  • He underwent dialysis three days a week from 4 AM to 9 AM for almost a year.
  • His brother and sister both matched as potential kidney donors, with his sister initially in line, but she was deemed not a perfect match due to challenges.
  • His wife, Crystal, who had a different blood type, got checked for an organ swap, but miraculously found out she was a perfect match for Ty , stating, "God has changed my blood type".
  • The transplant occurred on New Year's Eve 2019, and both Ty and Crystal came out perfectly.
  • They spent over a month in recovery before returning home around mid-February, just in time to face the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • With a compromised immune system, Ty had to be extremely careful and was eventually hospitalized with COVID, but has since recovered and continues to run his successful business.

The "No Options" Message:

  • Ty emphasizes that behind every challenge has been a success in his story.
  • He encourages listeners to "continue to push through your challenges because there is success on the other side".
  • He expresses gratitude to the three organ donors (his mother, the anonymous pancreas donor, and his wife Crystal) who have extended his life and allowed him to continue having success.
